Port Gellhorn

leaked · unconfirmed

Port Gellhorn is a city in Kelly County, Leonida, due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI.

Known from community leaks/datamining — never presented as confirmed fact. Updated the moment Rockstar reveals it officially.

What we know about Port Gellhorn

The city appears to be a vast coastal area on the western side of Leonida, with a wide variety of commercial and industrial infrastructure interspersed with dense forests, open grassy fields, and rolling hills. Port Gellhorn made a significant appearance in the September 2022 GTA VI leaks, which included multiple clips showing large portions of its commercial and industrial districts, terrain, and a top-down view of the Gellhorn International Raceway. In one particular leaked clip, a debug menu listing world events reveals other unseen points of interest in Port Gellhorn, including a police station, train station, trailer park, soccer field, basketball court, and more. The city officially debuted in the game's first trailer, showcasing two points of interest previously mentioned in the world events list from the September 2022 leaks: a pawn shop, and a liquor store. Port Gellhorn reappeared toward the end of the second trailer, offering another glimpse of its landmarks, including the Crossroad Park Minimall and the Bocamar Bridge. Additional official screenshots and a postcard featured in a dedicated section for Port Gellhorn on the game's promotional website further highlight points of interest such as the Delights strip club and the city's seaport area.

Real-world inspiration analysis

The various structures of Port Gellhorn point to the city being primarily inspired by Panama City, Florida, and its neighboring Bay County municipalities, particularly Parker, Callaway, and Springfield. The area's description as "Leonida's forgotten coast" on the game's promotional website references Florida's Forgotten Coast, which lies near Panama City. The seaport of Port Gellhorn resembles Port Tampa Bay in Tampa, Florida, with the Bocamar Bridge connecting to it serving as a rendition of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge spanning Lower Tampa Bay. Port Gellhorn's name appears to pay homage to Martha Gellhorn, an American novelist and journalist who covered the U.S. invasion of Panama in 1989, traveling to Panama City to report on civilian casualties resulting from the invasion, from which Panama City, Florida, derives its name. The "Port" part of the city's name is seemingly derived from Port Charlotte, Florida, which, along with the nearby Punta Gorda, corresponds geographically to Port Gellhorn's coastal bayside position directly west of Lake Leonida.
