🌐 Preparing for GTA Online's successor

First, the honest part: almost nothing is confirmed

Rockstar has announced no details about GTA 6's online component — not its name, launch timing, or whether anything carries over from GTA Online. History is the only guide: GTA Online launched two weeks after GTA 5, and Red Dead Online arrived a month after RDR2, both as staggered rollouts. Expect the online mode to trail the story launch rather than share it — but treat that as expectation, not fact, until Rockstar says otherwise.

Assume nothing carries over

There has been no announcement that GTA Online money, ranks, or garages transfer to the new game — and when GTA 5 jumped console generations, character transfers were eventually shut down. The rational stance: enjoy what you have in GTA Online now, and don't grind or buy Shark Cards on the assumption they carry forward. If a transfer is ever confirmed, it'll be on our news feed with a source the same day.

The prep that's actually worth doing

• Get your crew together now: a group chat of the friends you'll play with day one is worth more than any in-game head start.
• Check your subscriptions: online play will require PS Plus / Xbox Game Pass Core — don't let it lapse the week of an online launch.
• Lock down your Rockstar Games account: unique password, two-step verification. Account-theft attempts spike around big launches.
• Be scam-proof: nobody legitimate sells 'GTA 6 Online early access', money drops, or rank boosts. That entire economy is phishing and chargebacks.

Why we're not promising matchmaking tools yet

Some fan sites are already advertising GTA 6 'matchmaking services' for a game with no announced online mode. We won't do that. When Rockstar reveals how sessions, crews, and lobbies actually work, we'll build companion tools that match the real systems — and this page will track every verified detail between now and then.
