Sort your storage now, not launch week

Expect GTA 6 to be one of the biggest installs of this generation. Rockstar hasn't published a final file size, but recent flagship open-world titles have landed in the 100–200GB range, and GTA 6's two-city scale points to the high end of that. Treat ~150GB as a planning number, not a fact — we'll post the confirmed size on the news feed the moment Rockstar publishes it.

On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, check your free space today. If you're under 200GB free, decide now what you're archiving. Console SSD expansion cards routinely go on sale before big launches — grabbing one in an October sale beats panic-buying at full price in November.

• Check free space: Settings → Storage on both consoles.
• Archive or delete anything you haven't touched in 3 months.

• GTA 6 is confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only at launch — there is no announced PC or last-gen version. Don't buy a 'PC pre-order' from anyone.

Pre-load the second it opens

Rockstar has not yet announced the pre-load window. Based on Red Dead Redemption 2 and the GTA 5 next-gen releases, pre-loads typically open several days to a week before launch. When the date is confirmed you'll see it on our verified news feed with an official badge — until then, any specific date you read elsewhere is a guess.

Set your console to automatic downloads and rest mode so the pre-load starts without you. A 150GB-class download on a 100Mbps connection is roughly 3–4 hours in perfect conditions — and launch-window CDN congestion means conditions won't be perfect.

Pick your edition with your eyes open

Pre-order pages will push you toward the most expensive edition. Read what's actually in each tier before paying the difference — cosmetic bundles and early-access hours are worth different amounts to different players. Protect yourself from launch-window scams

Every huge launch brings a scam wave: fake 'early access' keys, 'PC versions', and marked-up scalper pre-orders for a digital product with unlimited supply. GTA 6 pre-orders are not scarce. Never pay above retail, and only buy from first-party stores (PlayStation Store, Xbox Store) or major retailers you already trust.

• No legitimate seller offers GTA 6 'beta access' — those are phishing.
• There is no PC version to buy. Anyone selling one is lying.

Plan your spoiler defense

Review copies and street-date breaks mean story spoilers will be everywhere in the final days. Decide your policy now: mute 'GTA', 'GTA 6', 'Jason', and 'Lucia' on social apps for launch week, and stick to sources with a no-spoiler policy. This site never puts story spoilers in headlines or thumbnails.
